What are some creative ways to market a new business?

From a service-based solopreneur perspective, I believe a ‘cocktail’ of marketing avenues will help you gain brand exposure & recognition.
Consider the following 7 creative marketing ideas and feel free to comment with your thoughts and ideas 🙂

  1. DEFINE YOUR BUSINESS IN DETAIL

    Establish your brand by clearly defining your mission, vision, target market & competitive advantage. Once you have these details nailed down, you can establish a visual identity (logo development) and carry that branding across all your marketing pieces in a consistent manner.

  2. INVEST IN A PROFESSIONAL WEBSITE

    If you run a business from home, your website is your storefront. What impression are you trying to make?
    Adding video is also a powerful strategy as people are interested in who runs the business.

  3. SHOWCASE YOUR AWESOME SELF!

    If video isn’t in your budget, I suggest showcasing a professional headshot coupled with a brief write up about who you are and how your business came to be. Highlight this pairing on your website and all social media platforms you are present on.

    TIP: Using the same photo of yourself across all platforms and your website will help to strengthen brand recognition.

  4. GET OUT & MEET PEOPLE

    Find networking events & groups where you can collaborate with like-minded entrepreneurs. Not only can you learn from each other, you may find complimentary businesses who could benefit from a cross promotion and possibly be open to sharing your business with their professional network.
    **DON’T FORGET YOUR BUSINESS CARDS!!!

  5. FOCUS ON QUALITY RELATIONSHIP BUILDING

    It’s not about reaching everybody, it’s about nurturing those who respect you and then reciprocating that respect.
    Do this, and you will soon find yourself surrounded by loyal fans and clients who naturally become your brand champions!

  6. BUDGET-FRIENDLY ADVERTISING

    Invest in social media advertising. Not only can you target specific groups that have a desire for your product/service, it is extremely easy on your budget.
    Be sure to include a call-to-action in your advertising (eg: Sign up now to receive your free gift)

    If you are looking to reach the general public, get creative with:

    • Posters/Flyers/Postcards – posted in local cafes
    • Car Decals
    • Transit Ads
    • Radio Ads
    • Mall Ads
  7. EMAIL MARKETING

    Be sure to utilize a trusted email platform (e.g.: MailChimp or AWeber) to share your blog content and other relevant information that appeals to your subscribers.
