Small Business Brand Profile: Melissa Holloway

February 28, 2017 by jaimewedholm 2 Comments

Melissa Holloway is a Certified Holistic Nutritional Consultant with a unique and holistic approach to health and weight loss. Melissa provides support to her clients in a positive and motivational manner, helping them stay focussed on living healthier and happier lives. I know this from my personal experience working with her.

Melissa Holloway shares insights based on her small business journey; speaking to what marketing strategies and forms of advertising have worked for her business, and which brands that inspire her business decisions.

Tell us how you help your clients.

I work with women helping them to discover how amazing their bodies are and how if we listen and pay attention to what our bodies are telling us we can truly tap into our youth and vitality. Our bodies are designed to feel amazing and heal themselves. I guide my clients to discover this through mindfulness activities, nutrition education and by offering continued support.

Share your favourite type of project and why you enjoyed it.

I love working with women in a group setting. I believe really strongly in the power of sisterhood and how working together we can really make huge changes in our lives. Supportive communities and sisterhoods are a lost art. Many people focus now on competition and one-upping each other. I love to work with a group of women that truly sees the value in learning from each other’s experience and raising each other up as we travel along on our own personal health or weight loss journey.

What brand(s) have inspired some of your entrepreneurial decisions to date, and why?

Nathalie Lussier inspired me to create my Happy Healthy Babes 30 Day Challenge.

What marketing strategies have you tried this past year that have worked well for your business?

About 5 months ago I started a Facebook community called the Happy Healthy Babes Community. This has been a great place to connect with potential clients. I’ve attracted the majority of these people through my free 30 Day Challenge opt in.

Based on your experience as a small business owner, what is the ONE most important piece of marketing advice you can offer to your entrepreneurial peers?

Stay consistent. It’s so easy to start something and quit if you don’t get the results you want. I believe that if you stay consistent and tweak things as needed you’ll have more success than scrapping everything and starting again. Also, if I can add another thing… Don’t apologize! I often see business owners apologizing because they haven’t posted regularly. Most people don’t even notice so don’t bring attention to it. Just keep going. Be more consistent, yes, but when you aren’t don’t draw attention to it.

What are 1-3 most effective forms of advertising that work for your business. How do you measure success? (new leads, new subscribers, engagement on social media or other)

Facebook ads are by far my most successful form of paid advertising. I measure success by number of opt-ins and/or clicks to my site.

Pinterest brings in a lot of traffic to my site without any paid ads, so I’m concentrating more efforts on Pinterest and may explore paid ads in the future.
