Small Biz Profile: Ellie Ears

Ellie Ears

Positional Support Pillow for Infants and Children

Ellie Ears is run by Chrissy Mouland, a Canadian mom of 4 kids who is also a registered nurse and former birth doula.

I met Chrissy last year at a time when demand had increased significantly for her Positioning Support Pillow. She was looking for a design facelift and functional upgrade to her existing packaging. I quickly fell in love with the product and honestly wish I had known about it when my children were younger!

Read on to learn about the Ellie Ears entrepreneurial journey!

Tell us about your company and how you help your clients.

Ellie Ears is a positional support pillow for infants and children, to provide proper head, neck and body alignment.
Aside from just being more comfortable, Ellie Ears are endorsed by pediatric health professionals to aide in the prevention and treatment of “flat head syndrome” and tight neck muscles.

Share your favourite type of project and why you enjoyed it.

Designing our new packaging with Jaime was a lot of fun. It was so satisfying to watch a vision come to life, and know that it will help.

What brand(s) have inspired some of your entrepreneurial decisions to date, and why?

I love what Bloom Kids Essentials is doing, they have followed a similar journey of rebranding recently and rocked it. Their journey into international wholesale is inspiring and Katie (owner) is just the loveliest person.
ZippyJams, Munch MItt and One Berrie are all my go to brands and people for advice and inspiration.

What marketing strategies have you tried this past year that have worked well for your business?

We’ve moved to a more educational approach to marketing and it has been well received as it is offering more than just a product to purchase. This increases the customer’s trust in our brand and has made us more approachable.

Based on your experience as a small business owner, what is the ONE most important piece of marketing advice you can offer to your entrepreneurial peers?

Be real and know what your customers want on a larger scale – not just the product you are selling but the why behind it and what the product truly offers them.

What are 1-3 most effective forms of advertising that work for your business. How do you measure success?
(Based on new leads, new subscribers, engagement on social media or other)

Social media has been pivotal in our educational marketing and visual presence, in particular Instagram.
We had a successful crowd funding campaign which helped to build our presence in Alberta in particular, through the use of social media (IG and FB), and email marketing.
