I’m Publishing A Colouring Book!
Being witness to the explosion of, and high demand for a wide range of themed colouring books, and learning that self-publishing is much easier to accomplish than before, I’ve decided to take the plunge and create my own colouring book!
Years ago I began designing kid-themed colouring pages for my daughter who, to this day, thinks it’s super cool that I can create pages from her requests, and loves to colour to this day.
It was just a fun hobby for a few years until more and more people kept nudging me to create variations for adults. I took it as a sign that it was time to do something big!
It’s for everyone who loves to colour.
This colouring book will likely appeal to parents who desire quiet, uninterrupted ‘me’ time! I suspect it will also captivate anyone who appreciates the calming joy one can experience when colouring! Basically it’s for EVERYONE!
Oh! I almost forgot to mention the theme is centred around WINE!
Wine and colouring… The two were destined to be paired together! I mean, colouring is a very relaxing and enjoyable activity, why not pair it with a generous glass of Pinot Grigio, or Malbec!?
The Creative Process
My goal is to create a collection of colouring pages that are slightly humorous, light hearted and most importantly, enjoyable.
My sketches are very rough, as I am clearly not a hand illustrator by any measure. But these sketches are starter concepts from which I transform into digital illustrations using Adobe Illustrator. Being a graphic designer by trade, I am well versed in Adobe Creative Suite programs, so you might call this is my playground 😉
I create custom shapes, patterns and brush strokes to build mandala styled pieces.
I use fun typography design to incorporate into some concepts.
The process starts off quite raw, yet each final design piece boasts a polished and refined look. All illustrations are designed with the colouring artist (possibly YOU!) in mind.
I plan to enlist the help of a small group of test colourists prior to publishing, that way I can fine tune each design to meet the best expectations possible. There may or may not be a requirement where each test colourist enjoy a glass or two of their favourite wine during the testing phase 😉
