Create Meaningful Connections in 2020

January 7, 2020 by jaimewedholm 2 Comments

If we were to look back at our daily communications, I would make a bet that the majority of us ‘talk’ to our clients – our friends, our family – mainly via email, text or social media.

Be honest… Have you ever gone back and forth writing a long email thread with a client, and at the end of it all you realized you could have hashed all the details out within a 30 minute phone call?

I swear this happens far too often in my world. Granted, there are situations where we need to have things in writing; however, I’ve come to realize that we are losing touch with each other!

I don’t know about you, but I feel like our technologically savvy culture – amazing as it can be – is actually destroying human connection. We are losing quality communication skills that we need in order to nurture meaningful relationships.

So that settles it… my word for 2020 is CONNECTION.

I want to pick up the phone more often and talk to my people! Clients, friends, family, and new acquaintances.

I want to get out more often, have coffee and conversations in real life.

Why?

Because it’s good for the soul.

It’s important to our mental health.

It promotes healthy relationships and creates customer loyalty.

So let’s get on the phone and chat. Or meet for coffee. Or have a video call. I want to get to know you outside of the keyboard and inbox.

See you soon 🙂

Love it! I’ve just had the second conversation about this today. Basing our connection on email or social media leaves far too much room for us to fill in the blanks. Taking time to ask how someone is, in person or on the phone, opens the door to conversation. An email with “I hope this finds you well”, doesn’t.
Connection is a beautiful all encompassing word. Connection within ourselves, connection with others, connection to the world around us… but not electronically.

Totally agree – connection is everything! As a society, we are losing touch with each other and I find that heartbreaking. Hearing a voice or seeing a face is absolutely the best!
